Lesson 3: Diet and Health Revision Notes
Lesson Objectives
In this lesson, we're going to find out how eating the right foods can keep us healthy. Here's what we aim to learn:
Grade C: Understand what a balanced diet means. A balanced diet includes eating different kinds of food in the right amounts to get all the nutrients (good things our bodies need) we need.
Grade B: Know what happens if we eat too much or too little food. Eating the right amount helps us stay healthy and happy.
What is a Balanced Diet?
A balanced diet is like making sure your plate has a bit of everything—not just your favourite foods! It means eating a variety of foods to get the nutrients your body needs to work well.
Parts of a Balanced Diet
Carbohydrates (like rice and bread): Give you energy to play and learn.
Proteins (found in meat and beans): Help your body grow and repair itself.
Fats (like butter and oils): Needed in small amounts for energy and to keep you healthy.
Vitamins and Minerals (in fruits and vegetables): Keep your body working well and fight off sickness.
Water: Very important! It keeps you hydrated and helps your body work smoothly.
Fibre (in whole grains and veggies): Helps your digestive system to keep moving.
Eating Too Much or Too Little
Eating Too Much: Can lead to having too much energy, which your body stores as fat. This can make you overweight and lead to health problems like heart disease.
Eating Too Little: Means your body doesn't get enough nutrients, making you underweight. This can make you feel tired and get sick more often.
Keywords Simplified
Nutrient: Good things in food that your body needs to grow, repair itself, and stay healthy.
Balanced Diet: Eating different kinds of food in the right amounts to get all the nutrients your body needs.
Food: What we eat to give our bodies energy and nutrients.
Eating a balanced diet is like putting together a puzzle. Each piece (or nutrient) is important, and you need all of them to complete the picture of good health. Remember, too much or too little of anything isn't good—balance is key! Keep exploring to learn more about the nutrients in different foods and how they help you stay healthy.
