Lesson 4: Fitness Revision Notes
Lesson Objectives
In this lesson, we're going to learn about fitness, which is all about how well our bodies work. By the end of this lesson, students should be able to:
Grade B: Describe what is meant by fitness. Fitness is how healthy and strong your body is and how well you can do activities like running, jumping, or carrying things.
Grade A: Explain how to measure someone's heart rate. Your heart rate is how many times your heart beats in a minute, and it can tell us a lot about how fit we are.
What Does Fitness Mean?
Being fit means different things, but it usually means having the energy and strength to do your daily activities and still having some energy left over for extra fun!
Measuring Fitness
One way to see how fit a person is by checking their heart rate when they are resting. A fit person's heart doesn't have to work as hard to keep them moving, so their resting heart rate is usually lower.
How to Measure Your Heart Rate
Step 1: Find your pulse. You can feel your pulse on your wrist near your thumb or on your neck to the side of your windpipe.
Step 2: Use two fingers (your index and middle finger) to press lightly over the pulse.
Step 3: Count the beats for 60 seconds (or count for 30 seconds and multiply by 2) to find your heart rate in beats per minute.
A normal resting heart rate for kids is about 60 to 100 beats per minute. The fitter you are, the lower your resting heart rate will be.
Keywords Simplified
Fitness: Being healthy and able to do lots of activities without getting too tired.
Pulse: The beating of your heart, which you can feel through your skin in places like your wrist or neck.
Heart: The muscle in your chest that pumps blood around your body.
Learning about fitness helps us understand how important it is to keep our bodies active
and healthy. Remember, doing regular exercise and eating healthy foods can make your heart strong and keep you fit!
